The SGI Irix cluster contains SGI Origin 300 and Onyx 300 machines. Each machine has at least 8 MIPS R14000 processors and 8Gb of main memory. The machines run SGI Irix 6.5 and the front-end has licenced versions of the MIPSPro C, C++ and Fortran compilers and SGI Java 2 (equivalent to Sun Java 1.4.1_06).
All users registered with the NGS have access to this resource using the accepted Globus-based access mechanisms (GSISSH, GRAM, GridFTP).
To access the resource using GSISSH or GridFTP, use the hostname wesc9-comsc.grid.cf.ac.uk. The GSISSH service listens on port 2222. To connect, you may need to use the command gsissh -p 2222 wesc9-comsc.grid.cf.ac.uk.
To access the front-end node, use the GRAM resource manager name wesc9-comsc.grid.cf.ac.uk/jobmanager-fork.
To access the full power of the available processors using the Condor batch queue, use the GRAM resource manager name wesc9-comsc.grid.cf.ac.uk/jobmanager-condor.
The HOME directory for each user is shared between the 4 machines.
