Introduction
The University of Reading Affiliate resource provides access to the University of Reading Campus Grid. As an affiliate resource, generally only users from Reading are allowed access. Please email its-help@reading.ac.uk if you want to use this resource if you are at Reading or collaborating with a Reading researcher in the area of e-Research
Configuration
The University of Reading Campus Grid is a Linux-based Condor pool comprising of about 400 machines. Although the worker machines in the Condor pool natively run Windows XP, CoLinux is installed as a Windows service on these machines to provide the Linux environment in which Condor runs. This means that users can run their Linux executable on the pool without the need to dual-boot the worker machines. The Linux VMs are started stopped when users login and logout of Windows. There is a dedicated checkpointing server for long-running jobs.
Accessing the Resource
The machines can be accessed using GRAM at grid.reading.ac.uk/jobmanager-condor and GSISSH using gsissh -p 2222 grid.reading.ac.uk.
The home directory for each user is shared and consistently named across the head node and all execution nodes.
