Connecting Infrastructure, Connecting Research

Research and Development

Within the NGS we are not only supporting users and integrating production e-infrastructure, we are also looking at the cutting edge components to improve the services we are able to provide to users. Each of the tools displayed below have been developed to either allow a new user community to access the NGS, or following consultation with existing users may ease their access significantly or give them new functionality.

Regular Research and Development updates are posted to the NGS blog

Services

  • Highly Available Resource Co-allocator (HARC)

NGS-Cloud

We are also active in the cloud space and as such have built two instances of Infrastructure as a Service cloud using the Eucalyptus system.  This service is currently available for use by experienced beta testers who are willing to help with stress testing the installations. Instructions for accessing the prototype services are given below (it is not a full production service at the moment so should not be used for critical data or analyses):

  • Accessing the NGS-Cloud (at Edinburgh and Oxford sites)

A general Frequently Asked Questions is available: FAQ.

This will be updated as the experience with the service develops.
