GSI-PuTTY
Please note that the NGS no longer supports GSI-PuTTY; equivalent functionality is available using GSI-SSHTerm. GSI-PuTTY was last released before our new 2B CA certificate was released so is now known not to work for sites or users with newly signed certificates. Expert users might be able to solve this themselves by adding the requisite CA certificates to the hierarchy.
This is a version of PuTTY which includes support for Globus's GSISSH service which is used to log in to NGS resources. It provides equivalent functionality to the Java GSI-SSHTerm.

How to use - NGS
To be able to use PuTTY with the NGS you will first need to request a certificate from the UK e-Science CA and then (once you have recieved your certificate) you will need to apply for a NGS account. This is explained in the how to join section.
Once you have the account and certificate follow these instructions to back up your certificate from your web browser, this will leave you with a .p12 or .pfx file. You can then use the supplied program to install your certificate: "Start"->"Programs"->"GSI-PuTTY"->CertificateInstallers".
Run "Start"->"Programs"->"GSI-PuTTY"->GSI-PuTTY". Select the "gsissh" protocol, type in the hostname and press OK. If you have no current proxy certificate you will be prompted for the desired proxy lifetime and your Grid certificate password.
