VOMS stands for Virtual Organisation Membership Service. VOMS provides tools to help grids manage the authorization of their users. VOMS helps Virtual Organisations (VOs) by delegating the approval of users to the VO itself, consequently removing the onus upon the end user to register with each resource s/he might use as part of the VO. VOMS is a project resulting from a collaborations between EDG and DataTAG. The NGS VOMS service allows VOs to be created and each VO membership is managed by a named VO manager. NGS resources are in the process of adopting VOMS to authorize NGS members, and in future the number of VOMS-aware resources is likely to increase.
Member sites genenerally only need to install the VOMS client tools.
The NGS maintains a set of internal documentation detailing how to install VDT. By following these instructions a site can quickly install and configure a wide range of Grid services which are needed in order to become a member, including: GSI, GLUE, MDS, PreWS GRAM, GSI-SSH server and clients, MyProxy clients, VOMS Clients and GridFTP
