Accessing the NGS using Client/User Tools

Once you have an e-Science Certificate (see the application procedure), you can use the following tools to gain access to the NGS and manage your data and run compute-codes/applicationsFirst, please run the Certificate Management Wizard first to setup your local Grid certificate, settings and environment.

Certificate Management Wizard

Use this tool to setup your local Grid environment. First export (backup) your certificate from your browser onto your computer (Save As .p12/.pfx file) and then run the Wizard. This tool can be used to manage your certificate and its accompanying private key, upload/download your Grid credentials into a remote MyProxy server, manage VOMS and more.

GSI-SSHTerm

This tool provides SSH terminal access for logging into your account on the NGS Grid cluster computers. Logging-in provides direct interactive shell access so that you can write and run your own scripts and applications.

MEG/KGSI-SSH

This is a beta-test of a GSI-enabled server that allows you to use virtually any standard SSH client to logon to the NGS. It is limited to the NGS node based at STFC/RAL for the moment, but is a good starting point for people who prefer to login using Putty (or some other client) on Windows.

UI - WMS Resource Broker

The NGS WMS (Workload Management System) resource broker allows users to easily submit jobs to the NGS, and to retrieve their output when the jobs are executed. Users interact with the WMS by means of a User Interface (UI). Once logged onto the UI, users can specify their jobs, any files the job requires and describe any additional requirements (hardware, software). The WMS then automatically selects the best resources to run the job.

NGS Portal (JSDL Applications Repository) / https://portal.ngs.ac.uk

Use the portal to browse a repository of compute-codes and applications. You can load a particular application, save it as your own, modify/tweak as required and subsequently submit/monitor job(s). You can also manage/upload/download data using the portal.

Hermes Grid Enabled File Browser

This desktop tool provides a 'drag-n-drop' capability for browsing Grid resources and dragging files and directories to/from your desktop and a remote Grid resource (supported protocols include: file, gsiftp, srb, irods, ftp, sftp/scp).

P-Grade Portal / Gemcla Portal

The P-Grade portal is a powerful portal for running applications and Grid resources and which also provides a workflow capability.
